Stef Van Puyenbroeck
Stef combines his extensive expertise in psychology with a passion for helping individuals achieve their best selves. With a Master’s degree in Psychology and a specialization in Sport Psychology from KU Leuven, Stef has also completed a PhD in Sport Psychology and Coaching. His work spans research, practical applications in coach education, and mental guidance for athletes of all levels, from recreational enthusiasts to Olympic athletes.
STEF’S BACKGROUND
Originally from Genk, Limburg, Stef pursued his academic journey at KU Leuven, earning credentials in psychology and sport psychology. He has a wealth of experience in sport psychological guidance, including collaborations with the gymnastics federation, and is trained in EMDR therapy for trauma processing. Stef also lectures at KU Leuven on the psychological aspects of rehabilitation and coordinates their continuing education program in sport psychology.
WHY HE DOES WHAT HE DOES
Stef is deeply fascinated by the mental components of human functioning—emotions, thought patterns, self-image, and well-being. At Waves, he integrates his psychological expertise to support clients in their pain management, stress management, to deal with fear of movement or fear of failure, to process traumas or optimize performance. His individualized approach empowers clients to translate their intentions to effective behavioral change and improved well-being. The guidance of Stef is characterized by empathy, personalization, and evidence-based practices.
STEF’S DOWN TIME
When Stef isn’t working, he’s often found enjoying sunny cycling trips, planning his next ski adventure, or relaxing with a good TV series and a glass of whiskey. An enthusiastic sports fan, he loves attending events with his family and soaking in the energy of the crowd.
