Officieel spreken we van menopauze wanneer je 12 maanden na elkaar geen menstruatie meer hebt gehad \u2013 meestal gebeurt dit tussen de leeftijd van 45 en 55 jaar.<\/p>\n<p>Maar de menopauze is geen momentopname \u2013 het is een geleidelijke overgang, be\u00efnvloed door hormonale veranderingen, in het bijzonder een daling van oestrogeen en progesteron.<\/p>\n<p>We delen deze overgang vaak op in drie fases:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Pre-menopauze: de hormoonspiegels beginnen te verschuiven, maar de menstruatiecyclus blijft nog regelmatig.<\/li>\n<li>Perimenopauze: de aanloop naar de menopauze. De menstruatie wordt onregelmatiger en er kunnen symptomen optreden zoals opvliegers, stemmingswisselingen, slaapproblemen of veranderingen in energie en libido. Deze fase kan tot enkele jaren duren [1, 2].<\/li>\n<li>Post-menopauze: deze fase start wanneer je een volledig jaar geen menstruatie meer hebt gehad. Schommelende en dalende oestrogeenspiegels hebben invloed op bijna elk systeem in het lichaam.<\/p>\n<p>Mogelijke symptomen zijn onder andere:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Slaapproblemen en nachtelijk zweten<\/li>\n<li>Stemmingswisselingen, angst of depressieve gevoelens [1]<\/li>\n<li>Moeite met concentreren (ook wel gekend als \u2019brain fog\u2019) [1, 2]<\/li>\n<li>Gewichtstoename, vooral rond de buik [2]<\/li>\n<li>Gewrichtspijn of stijfheid [2]<\/li>\n<li>Veranderingen in libido of seksueel comfort [4]<\/li>\n<li>Vaginale droogheid en urineklachten [4, 6]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><!-- notionvc: c9f9a0d9-63ee-4f46-93cb-b45f5a65539f --><\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_large\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"g-cols wpb_row us_custom_ab613840 via_flex valign_top type_default stacking_default\"><div class=\"vc_col-sm-7 wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><h3>Meer dan klachten: langetermijneffecten op je gezondheid<\/h3>\n<p>Lage oestrogeenspiegels tijdens en na de menopauze kunnen een verhoogd risico geven op aandoeningen zoals hart- en vaatziekten en osteoporose [5].<\/p>\n<p>Daarom is een <em>proactieve<\/em> aanpak zo belangrijk \u2013 niet alleen gericht op symptoomverlichting, maar ook op langdurig welzijn. Een gezonde voeding, regelmatige lichaamsbeweging en niet roken vormen hierbij de basis.<\/p>\n<h3>Wat zijn je opties?<\/h3>\n<p>Het goede nieuws is, er bestaat heel goede ondersteuning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bepaalde medicijnen of hormoontherapie (HRT) kunnen helpen om symptomen te verlichten en gezondheidsrisico\u2019s te verminderen. Dit gebeurt altijd in overleg met je arts [6].<\/li>\n<li>Levensstijlveranderingen maken echt een verschil. Een evenwichtige voeding, voldoende beweging, goede slaaphygi\u00ebne en stressreductie dragen bij aan een stabiel hormonaal evenwicht en algemeen welzijn.<\/li>\n<li>Krachttraining is \u00e9\u00e9n van de krachtigste hulpmiddelen voor vrouwen tijdens en na de menopauze.
